This topic used to be about the BMW’s only. I changed it into Jägermeister touring cars in February 2025
last update: February 13, 2025
Jägermeister is a German liqueur producer that sponsored a lot of cars and teams, especially in the German and European championships. The Jägermeister Prototypes are in collection #010. In this Collection I focus on the many Touring cars that wore the bright orange livery of Jägermeister.
1973 Rally de Monte Carlo, Ford Capri RS 2600. Schimpf has been co-pilot for many years and he takes the wheel himself in the 1973 Rally de Monte Carlo. The team didn’t make it to the finish; Klaus Fritzinger in another Capri crashed in the snowy conditions and blocked the road. Towing trucks and spectators came to help and no rally car was able to pass. Instead of neutralizing the stage, the organizer simply disqualified all 165 (!) cars that were stranded … including the Jägermeister Ford.
#206 Eckhardt Schimpf (D) / Ernst-Johann Zauner (D) – DSQ

- IXO RAC 269 (diecast)
1973 Nürburgring 24h, BMW 3.0 CSL – Alpina. The CSL version of the BMW 3.0 was quick, especially the ones from tuner Alpina. The Jägermeister car won the 24-hour race at the Nürburgring. This race didn’t last 24 hours at all that year; it was 2 times 8 hours with 8 hours in between because of bad weather …

1973 Spa-Francorchamps 24h, BMW 3.0 CSL – Alpina. The 5th round of the European Championship was held at Spa-Francorchamps which then was still a street circuit through the Ardennes mountains. Blistering fast and quite dangerous … Sadly, Hans-Peter Joisten had a fatal accident.

Other years
1974 DRM Norisring, BMW Schlüter 2002 Tii. The battle in division II of the DRM Championship was between Ford and BMW. The Zakspeed Escorts were favourite thanks to their 16 valve engines. The group 2 BMW 2002 were less powerful but had independent rear axle which gave them better traction. Helmut Kelleners drove this Jägermeister BMW from the less known team of Schlüter. He finished third and fourth a few times during the season, but retired at the Norisring.

One of his greatest achievements was during the 6-hour race for the European Touring Car Championship in 1975. The little 1300 cc NSU finished 4th overall behind 3 BMW 3.0 CSL’s beating the 2002’s and some big Opel Commodores, and of course it won its class.

Willi Bergmeister and Helmut Henzler shared this Jägermeister sponsored car and won in Pergusa and at the Nürburgring. At the Zandvoort Trophy they failed to finish because of a broken gearbox.

1979 European Touring Car Championship, Eggenberger BMW 320i. When the Group 5 was introduced, the group 2 lost popularity in a rapid rate. In 1979 all factory teams had disappeared and a few old BMW CSLs ruled the European Touring Car Championship. The 2-liter class was dominated by the Zakspeed Escorts, but at the Nürburgring and Zandvoort, this Eggenberger BMW 320i finished 3rd overall and 1st in class both times when driven by Helmut Kelleners and Siri Müller jr. The car was piloted by numerous drivers throughout the season and had different numbers each time.

In the end only one little Lancia arrived at the finish, it won in front of a Rondeau, an old BMW M1 and this little normally aspirated BMW 320i. 1993 DTM Championship Norisring, Linder BMW 325i E36 coupé. In 1993 new DTM rules were introduced with high revving 2.5 liter 6-cylinder engines. Opel and Alfa Romeo could homologate V6 engines that lay far behind the front axle of the car. BMW was represented by Linder, a privateer team that had to choose between a straight 6-cylinder that was longer and higher than the V6’s or make use of the well-known E30 4-cylinder that couldn’t deliver the power that the V6’s could. Linder chose the second option and Armin Hahne competed in a number of races until Linder gave up the unequal fight.
