2024 Nürburgring 24h, Porsche 911 GT3 R. The Nürburgring 24-hour race is very special because of the characteristics of the track, the ever changing weather and the huge grid. This year, because of the bad weather and thick fog the race was shortened to just under 7,5 hours running time. Not what you would expect from an endurance race. The Herberth Porsche showed up in a fine retro FAT livery, which used to be a logistic company but nowadays the name and logo are owned by Porsche!

2019 Le Mans 24h, Ford GT LM. 2019 is the last year that Ford participates with the Ford GT LM. All four Chip Ganassi Racing GTs are painted in a special livery. The #68 has the red-white-and blue scheme that is in use since 2016, so not very retro. The other three go back to 1968 and 1969 when Ford won Le Mans overall. Two cars have the livery of the Ford GT MkII’s that finished first and second in 1968. The red one is a tribute to the Mk IV that was victorious in 1969. The three retro style Fords finish 4th, 5th and 6th in GTE PRO in their farewell to Le Mans race.

“Érik Comas”, street legal Nissan R390 GT1. Érik Comas is a French racing driver, former champion in Formula 3000 and four years active in Formula 1. His greatest success was winning the All-Japan Grand Touring Car Championship two years in a row in the yellow Pennzoil Nissans. With Nissan, he competed in the 1998 Le Mans in the Nissan R390 GT1 finishing in 6th together with Jan Lammers and Andrea Montermini. Comas obtained that original #R8 chassis in 2017 and started restoration in 2020. A Glass windshield, more ground clearance, additional cooling, steel disk brakes replacing the carbon fibre ones, a decent interior … many changes were made to make the car street legal since 2022, but the engine is still the original one. The finishing touch in 2025 was wrapping the white car in the Pennzoil livery of his championship winning Nissans. Érik Comas his dream has come true!

2025 Le Mans 24h, Toyota GR010 Hypercar. The Toyota GR010 was the first Hypercar constructed by a major manufacturer. The Hypercar technical rules set doesn’t allow many updates, so the first-mover disadvantage applies: All other manufacturers learned from the Japanese. But in its fifth season the car is still quit competitive, however the Balance of Performance always plays a role; Toyota complained a lot about it this year. The #7 car had trouble in qualifying and didn’t proceed to the hyper pole, it started only 17th but finished 5th after all. After the black livery from last year, this year a retro color scheme was used for the #7 car, it had the same livery as the 1998 Toyota TS 020 – GT-One. The #8 was black just as last year’s car.
#7 Nyck de Vries (NL) / Mike Conway (GB) / Kamui Kobayashi (J) – 5th

2016 IMSA Championship Watkins Glen, Mazda Prototype. Mazda returned to the IMSA series and just as a number of years before, they used Lola chassis and an Mazda based engine. The cars ran in red metallic, but for the Watkins Glen race for one of the cars, an old and famous color scheme was chosen. In 2017 a new DPi car would be presented and Joest Racing would take over the development.

2022 Bathurst 12h, Lamborghini Hurácan GT3 evo. Bathurst always provides some special and spectacular liveries. The Wall Racing Lamborghini isn’t sponsored by German chemical concern BASF, but it used the same livery as the BASF BMW M1’s from 1981. The result is spectacular! The Lamborghini wasn’t only nice to see, it was fast too. Wall Racing finished 5th overall.

2024 Le Mans 24h, Porsche 963. Penske again entered three cars in this year’s Le Mans, two regulars from WEC and the #4 car that usually competes in IMSA GTP. That #4 crashed, but the others did well and finished just outside the podium in 4th and 5th place. The #6 car was second fastest in regular qualifying, but thanks to the hyperpole format, it managed to score pole position.
#6 Laurens Vanthoor (B) / Kevin Estre (F) / Andre Lotterer (D) – 4th

2015 Le Mans 24h, Nissan GT-R LM. After the experiments with the DeltaWing and ZEOD, Nissan makes another great appearance with the spectacular GT-R LM. The engine comes from the GT-R and has sufficient power. The V6 twin-turbo is placed in front of the driver and drives the front wheels. A hybrid system is supposed to assist and drive the rear wheels thus leaving much empty space that can be used for aerodynamics; much of the air flows right through the bodywork. The PR and transparency of the team are great but the car is a disaster: The hybrid system doesn’t work, therefore the car is too slow out of corners and the front tires and brakes suffer much more than expected. Two cars retire, a third makes it to the finish but isn’t classified. The #21 was painted in the classic Nissan red-white and blue.
#21 Tsugio Matsuda (J) / Mark Shulzhitskiy (RUS) / Lucas Ordoñez (ES) – DNF

1992 Sebring 12h, Gunnar 966-Porsche. The Gunnar 966 was based upon the chassis of a Porsche 962 and has its engine but a flat bottom as required by WSC regulations. The car raced between 1991 and 1993 but never achieved great succes. Typical Gunnar style; the car had a different livery every race and this time it was another Brumos tribute.
#59 Hurley Haywood (USA) / Bobby Carradine (USA) – DNF
Gunnar 966 – IMSA GTP. Powered by 3.2 liter Porsche 935/86 flat-6 twin turbo, approx. 680 hp. BF Goodrich tires. Weight 900 kg. Aluminium + carbon fibre monocoque, chassisnr. Chapman #C05

1993 Sebring 12h, Porsche 911 Turbo S LM-GT. The Turbo S LM-GT was based on the street turbo (type 964). It made its debut at Sebring in a special class created to make it possible to compete because it wasn’t homologated yet. Later in 1995, Porsche introduced the 911 GT2 (type 993) that profited from the development by this car. The famous Brumos livery of the 1973 Daytona winner keeps inspiring, this works Porsche also appeared in the red-white and blue.

1993 Road America, Gunnar 966 Porsche. Not a Penske car, but it looks like one: Kevin Jeanette built this Gunnar Porsche 966, the world’s first WSC Sportscar. The car was based upon the chassis of a Porsche 962 and has its engine. The car raced between 1991 and 1993 but never achieved great success. Typical Gunnar style; the car had a different livery and drivers every race. At Road America it had the famous Sunoco livery, but the engine seized after only laps.

1991 Miami 2h, Gunnar 966 – Porsche. Kevin Jeanette built this Gunnar Porsche 966, the world’s first WSC Sports Car. The car was based upon the chassis of a Porsche 962 and also has its engine. The car raced between 1991 and 1993 but never achieved great succes. Typical Gunnar style; the car had a different livery every race. 1997 Le Mans 24h, Porsche 911 GT1. JB Racing entered this beautiful 911 GT1 at Le Mans. It was clear that the team was sponsored by Marlboro bearing the same livery as was very common 14 years before. Rules about tobacco advertising have become much stricter, so the Marlboro name was replaced by some lines, but every race fan knows the meaning.
