#082 Jägermeister GT

The early years, no turbo’s yet

1972 Nürburgring 1000 km, Porsche 914/6. Eckhard Schimpf was the PR/sponsor manager from Jägermeister. In the early years, a lot of his budget went to Porsche teams from Kremer and Max Moritz. Sometimes he took the wheel himself, such as in the Nürburgring 1000 km race of 1972. Unfortunately, the team wasn’t able to make it to the start. It was the very first car that was owned by Jägermeister Racing and is still in the ’72StagPower Collection.

1974 Aspern, Porsche 914/6. Little details are known from Dieter Bohnhorst and his Porsche 914/6. Quite sure is that the car has been prepared by Porsche Motorsport. Bohnhorst competed in GT races, hill climbs and even slalom events with his little Jägermeister sponsored car. He competed in the first race of the 1974 Austrian championship at an airfield named Aspern using #36. Bohnhorst also raced a De Tomaso Pantera (see pic below), I hope to add a model of that to my collection when possible.

1978 Le Mans 24h, Porsche 934. Everybody knows the famous orange livery of German liquor producer Jägermeister. Interesting is that no cars in that livery drove at Le Mans before, most were racing in ETCC / DRM / DTM and world championship sports cars. One man managed to drive the famous colours at Le Mans: Hervé Poulain, the same that took the initiative for the famous BMW Art cars in the previous years. Again, he added another famous livery to the Le Mans history.
