Maarten de Bruyn designed an exotic sports car which he named Spyker, after the famous Dutch brand from the early 20th century. Businessman Victor Muller bought the company. The megalomaniac Muller also bought the Midland Formula 1 team and the troublesome car manufacturer Saab. None of these projects were successful. The Spykers that raced at Le Mans competed in GT2 against Porsche 911, Ferrari 360 and TVR Tuscans, all cars of which the street version were 50% cheaper. Not very good for your image, I guess. The actual competition in the market for exotic cars such as Aston Martin all raced in GT1. Just like many cars in collection #029, the main color is orange.

C8 Double-12R
2002 Le Mans 24h, Spyker C8 Double-12R
The new car brand Spyker comes to Le Mans with a car that besides a shake down, had not yet been tested. During the night the car slowly disintegrated and had to pull from the race. It is not a 12 cylinder as the name might suggest, it was a Mader prepared BMW V8. The operations were performed by German Reiter engineering.

C8 Spyder GT2R
2005 Le Mans 24h, Spyker C8 Spyder GT2R
The Spyker returns to Le Mans after a year of absence. The new car is shorter, wider and faster and the Mader BMW V8 had been replaced by an Audi V8 engine. The open top looked cool but it was a big disadvantage for the top speed. The car isn’t more reliable than the Double-12R and it retires after a fire in the 76th lap.

2007 Le Mans 24h, Spyker C8 Spyder GT2R hardtop
Spyker again appeared with the same car as last year: a spyder with a hardtop. But the Spyker factory was in financial trouble and the cars were not developed and slower than last year’s. Again they failed to finish. In the #85 the transmission broke before the engine could …
