2007 Nürburgring 24h, Porsche Cayman S “Alman”
The Porsche Cayman (987) was developed together with the 997 and shared many components such as the engine. The Alzen brothers drive this extreme looking Porsche Cayman in the German endurance championship because of its lower centre of gravity and long wheelbase compared to “Turbinchen” that had been used in the years before. The engine was enlarged to 3.9 liter and many GT3 RSR parts were added. The Porsche factory wasn’t very enthusiastic about the project, they rather promoted the 911. Highlight of the season is the 24 hours race at the old Nürburgring where it finishes 4th.

2014 Le Mans 24h, Porsche 911 GT3 RSR
WeatherTech team used to race in the USA and got the opportunity to race at Le Mans with the second car of the Belgian Prospeed Competition. Bret Curtis crashed the car beyond repair during qualifying, he got hurt and was unable to race. The entire chassis had to be replaced (see pic of its arrival at the track Friday afternoon). The team managed to build it up overnight but they had to start without Curtis. Because the bronze-level driver wasn’t competing, the team had to change the entry from GTE Am (orange plates) to GTE Pro (green plates). Jeroen Bleekemolen suffered a few flat tires but still the two driver team managed to finish the race.

2010 Nürburgring 24h, Porsche 911 GT3 R Hybrid
Nowadays we are fully used to hybrid race cars, but in 2010 it was quite new. Panoz built a hybrid racer before in 1998, but Porsche’s 2010 version is much more serious. Instead of batteries, an electrical flywheel power generator that is fitted in the interior next to the driver, delivers energy to the electric motors. Two 60 kW electro engines drive the front wheels and assist the flat-6 that drives the rear axle. The factory car was offered to the experienced Manthey team to test it during the 24 hour race at the Nurburgring. It lead the race for 8 hours and retired two hours before the end.
