Prototypes
2000 Le Mans 24h, Reynard 2KQ – Chrysler
Chrysler tried the same as Cadillac: buy a chassis, put your engine in, hire an experienced team such as Oreca to run it and race at Le Mans for victory. Both projects failed, the combination of Reynard chassis and Mopar power was a disaster, the #5 car had to retire in the very first lap. The sister car #6 managed to reach the finish but back in 22nd position. Chrysler was disappointed and switched to Dallara chassis for the 2001 race but stayed loyal to Oreca.

This Oreca Racing Courage LC70 in Evo specifications with 5.5-liter Judd V10 should have been driven by Stephane Ortelli. But he still suffered from the horrific crash he had at Monza in April. Even without Ortelli the team performed excellent: a top 10 qualifying and finishing second non-diesel.

Peugeot
2010 Le Mans 24h, Peugeot. 908 HDI FAP
Oreca could use the 4th Peugeot 908 HDI just as Pescarolo did in 2009. The French make was favorite this year, but it would go completely different. All factory Peugeots had already retired when this car was battling for 2nd place. Duval drove the fastest lap and only a few laps later, he blew his engine in a big flame. Teamowner Hughes de Chaunac saw it happening on the monitor in his pit box and cried.

2011 Le Mans 24h, Oreca Peugeot 908 HDI FAP
The regulations for 2011 have changed. Audi and Peugeot race new cars with smaller diesel engines, but they still dominate LMP1. Oreca uses one of last year’s Peugeots, still with the 5.5 liter V12 diesel engine. It was restricted to prevent it from having an advantage over the newer cars with their small engines. It still finished 5th, and had already won the Sebring 12h race earlier this year.

Toyota
Toyota was developing a hybrid racing car for the Le Mans LMP1 category. Plan was to test in 2012 and make its race debut in 2013. But since Peugeot suddenly quit, the ACO asked Toyota if they could speed up the program and race at Le Mans already in 2012. And they did.
The engines and hybrid systems came from Japan, the cars were built by Toyota Team Europe in Cologne, Germany. But Toyota didn’t have an experienced trackside team. Oreca did and was available. So, between the debut of the Toyota TS030 until the last race of the TS050 in 2019, Oreca mechanics worked side by side with the Toyota engineers and the Oreca team supported Toyota with their strategy.

Thanks for visiting 😉
