Disclaimer: I do not smoke and surely do not want to promote tobacco. But neither do I ignore the fact that the tobacco industry has been quite good for motorsport in the past. So, I show the cars and models here as they were; with tobacco advertising.
Marlboro is probably the most well known tobacco sponsor in motorsport for their long partnerships with McLaren F1 in the Lauda-Prost-Senna era and afterwards with Scuderia Ferrari and Michael Schumacher. But the Philip Morris brand has supported many, many more teams and cars. A small number of these can be found in my collection.

1970’s
1972 Test Paul Ricard, Porsche 911 RSR
Two Marlboro sponsored works Porsche 911 Carrera RS competed in the Tour de Corse in November 1972 and both retired. The #6 car was shipped to Paul Ricard where a test session was planned that would turn the RS into the first RSR. The car was damaged in the Tour de Corse and repaired which explains the white door. Bigger wheel arches were mounted to cover the much wider rear wheels and also the larger rear spoiler that would make its debut at the Targa Florio in 1973 were already tested. The RSR would make its race debut at the Daytona 24h race in January 1973 as a prototype because the GT homologation wasn’t valid before March 1st. Surprisingly Porsche didn’t use the wider rear bodywork and rear wing at Daytona, they could have because of the prototype entry. Maybe because it would cause too much drag on the fast banking…

1974 Dutch Touring Cars Zandvoort, BMW 3.0 CSL
The Dutch touring car scene wasn’t very big but there were some interesting entrants in the early half of the 1970’s. Huub won some races but Siewertsen took the title.
I’ve been longing for a nice 1/43 model of this car (and the 1975 version) but couldn’t find it. So when the scale 1/18 appeared I had to add it to my collection … 😉

1996 Ferrari F40 LM Marlboro
I haven’t found much information about this car; as far as I know it doesn’t have a racing history. It is advertised as a 1996 Ferrari F40 LM, but only 19 LM have been built, so if it’s a LM it should be clear which one this is. I think it is a normal street-legal Ferrari F40, the type you see every day (…ahum) but nicely decorated as a LM in Marlboro livery. I also have no idea if the model is based on the car in the pictures. If you have more information, please leave a comment.
