Mobil1, part of ExxonMobil, is a lubricant and oil producer of which stickers can be found on many racing cars. But here I only show the cars that have an actual Mobil 1 livery, not just a sticker.

Porsche 911 GT1
1996 Le Mans 24h, Porsche 911 GT1
The 1996 Porsche GT1 looks like a Porsche 993, but is a pure prototype from which 25 were built for homologation. The engine came directly from the famous Group C Porsche 962, and the driver line-up was great. So it was favorite to beat the McLarens, but lost Le Mans to a WSC Prototype from Porsche-customer Joest.

The new developed Porsche 911 GT1 competed not only in Le Mans but also the FIA GT Championship, the successor of the BPR Series. At the first round of the 1997 championship at Hockenheim, this works car finished 4th in front of 5 other 911 Gt1’s but behind 3 McLarens. The version with the facelift and other livery appeared only after round 3.

1997 Le Mans 24h, Porsche 911 GT1 evo
The Porsche GT1 is a pure prototype from which 25 are built for homologation. This is the evo version, used by the factory in 1997. The development of the 911 GT1 had been on a strict budget, the factory still used the steel monocoque where most competitors switched to carbon fibre. The improved longtail McLarens beat the Porsches all season in BPR and also at Le Mans. Fortunately for Porsche, they can always relay on Joest who took the overall victory with his Porsche powered WSC prototype.

1998 Test, Porsche 911 GT1-98
The 1998 version of the 911 GT1 was more than just an evolution version. It was a brand new car with a carbon fibre monocoque and body which had nothing in common with a street car. However … for homologation purpose, 1 street version has been built.

1992 Macau Guia race, BMW M3 evo
Again the Schnitzer team was presented by Pirro, Winkelhock and Ravaglia, all three this year in a Mobil 1 livery. Again the biggest competition came from the AMG Mercedes’, also their opponents in the DTM. The Nissan Skylines had a lot of penalty weight because of the turbo engines and 4WD and had no chance against the DTM cars. Unfortunately all three AMG factory cars crashed and Emanuele Pirro who had won last year’s race and finished 2nd in the year before, took victory again.

1993 Spa-Francorchamps 24h, Porsche Carrera RSR
The 24-hour race at Spa has been a touring car event for many years, but getting full starting grids became more and more problematic. So since last year also GT’s were allowed. Some 25 Porsche 911 joined. Because the Porsche were a lot quicker than the local ‘procar’ touring cars, these got a restrictor on the fuel inlet that made their pitstops about twice as long. The race was red flagged after 15 hours, because the Belgian king had died that night … The shortened race was won by the Roock Porsche in Mobil1 livery with a great driver line-up. The first 6 spots were for Porsches.
