This collection was named Pink Porsches first, but I decided to add some models from other brands and also purple ones.

It all began in 1971. The new designed Porsche 917/20 was wider and shorter than the regular 917L. Count Rossi – the main sponsor – refused to paint it in the famous Martini livery or even put its name on it. Someone called the car a pig and Porsche designer Anatole Lapine’s idea for the new livery was born. It was the first of the Pink Porsches and quite a few would follow.

1971 Le Mans 24h, Porsche 917/20
The 917/20 had to combine the advantages from the 917K (handling) with those from the 917L (straight line speed). The 917/20 was not as successful as hoped for, but its chassis would be the basis for the all conquering CanAm 917 turbos.

1970 Le Mans 24h, Porsche 917L
Before Anatole Lapine came up with the idea of the Pink Pig, he already designed some other interesting liveries. The car was white first, Lapine painted the purple swirls on it just in time for qualifying, before the race the bright green was added.

1970 Watkins Glen 6h, Porsche 917K
The hippie 917 also competed in Watkins Glen where it finished 9th. Remarkable is that the Le Mans car ran on Goodyear tires while this one – in the same season – is fitted with Firestones, which could also be a mistake by BRUMM. Martini Racing competed in many races this year with the #021 chassis, most of these in the Interseries with Gijs van Lennep as driver.

Pink Porsche 934 & 935

1978 Fuji 500 miles, Porsche 935/77A
Not only the Pink Pig was an inspiration, another source of Pink Porsches came from support of the Matsuda Collection. The race was shortened because of heavy rain. The Porsche finished 4th and won category R1, for GT cars. The first three all were prototypes that competed in R2.

1980 Le Mans 24h, Porsche 935 K3
The K3 version of the Porsche 935 was a fantastic car. After Ludwig won the DRM and Le Mans in 1979, the Kremer brothers sold lots of K3’s. In 1980 no less then 10 competed in Le Mans, but most of them failed to finish among which this German-Japanese combination that was fastest GT in qualifying.

1981 Le Mans 24h, Porsche 934
The turbocharged Porsche 934 was much faster than the old RSR. It also was very reliable as proved by the privat run car that finished 4th overall in the 1979 Le Mans race. This Perrier car used alcohol instead of gasoline and came home 17th in 1981.

1983 Daytona 24h, Porsche 935 M16
American Frank Rubino entered this Pink Porsche for the Daytona 24-hour race in 1983. It was based on a former Momo 935/77A adapted by Californian tuner American International Racing who was clearly inspired by the Kremer K3. The car was very fast in qualifying and managed to finish the race 11th.

In the world championship race at Fuji, no less than 9 Porsches 956 competed. The Rothmans cars took double victory, the Kremer car failed to finish because of an oil leak.

1989 Le Mans 24h, Porsche 962C
This Joest Porsche was best of the rest (3rd) behind the two Mercedes Saubers that won the 24 hour race.Wollek and Stuck drove the entire race, as former winner “John Winter” (real name Louis Krages) did not drive at all. They did a fantastic job, finishing 3rd behind the two Mercedes C11 factory cars and ahead of the Lammers‘ Jaguar and another Mercedes.

1990 Le Mans 24h, Porsche 962
1990 saw a record 19 Porsche 962’s at the start. Richard Lloyd Racing entered two for this year’s race in the pink of Matsuda Collection. The #44 was a conventional long tail 962C. The #43 Porsche 962 GTi had a different, part carbon chassis and different bodywork. Unfortunately the car caught fire during a pitstop and had to retire.

1991 Le Mans 24h, Jaguar XJR-12 LM and XJR-14
Because of changes in the regulations, Jaguar drove the world championship races with a 3,5-liter Cosworth-engine. The XJR-14 was fast, Andy Wallace took the second qualifying time, but the car also was very unreliable. So for the 24-hour race TWR chose to start with the old reliable XJR-12 LM. These finished 2nd, 3rd and 4th behind the screaming Mazda 787B rotary.

1996 BPR Silverstone 4h, McLaren F1 GTR
The supercar McLaren F1 was also very well suited for racing. A large number of F1 GTR’s drove in the BPR GT Series, winning races. This BBA Competition car was one of the slower McLarens but it stood out from the crowd in its bright pink livery. One of the drivers is Belgian Vincent Vosse, never heard of him? He did quit some racing at Le Mans 24h and the Spa 24h and nowadays (2026) he is owner and team principal of WRT Racing, the main partner of BMW Motorsport.

1987 Porsche 944 turbo Cup
Everybody knows the Porsche Supercup and all the national series such as the German Porsche Carrera Cup that started in 1990. All these series make use of Cup versions of the Porsche 911. But before these series began, Porsche raced with the turbo version of the front-engined 944 between 1986 and 1989. The cars looked quite standard but had a special stiffened suspension, limited slip differential and an improved turbo unit, in total 192 cup 944’s have been built. Races were spectacular because the cars are much easier to drift than for instance a 911. Roland Asch was the master and took the championship in 1987, 1988 and 1989. Porsche guest drivers were offered the white and purple Blaupunkt sponsored car which now stands in the Porsche Museum in Stuttgart. The black-and-whites are taken by me at Nürburgring and Norisring.

Gunnar Racing is well known for their many different livery’s. In Phoenix 2004 they were all Pink – advertising for the Pixar movie “Cars” – and finished second in their class. The car is nicknamed “Pink Sally”.

2006 Zolder 24h, Porsche 911 GT3 RSR
This Prospeed 911 GT3 is painted in the way the Porsche 917/20 was back in 1971. It is by far not as revolutionary as the original pig but this one is reliable. The Belgian team finished 7th overall in the 24 hour race at Zolder.

2008 Le Mans 24h, Porsche RS Spyder evo
After the Porsche RS Spyder had won races and championships in the USA, it finally also came to Europe. Dutchman Peter van Merksteijn managed to get one and took class victory at its debut at Le Mans with an all Dutch driver line-up including ex-F1 driver Jos Verstappen.

2010 Le Mans 24h, Pescarolo 01 evo
Jacques Nicolet bought the Promatecme & Saulnier Racing Team and renamed it to Oak Racing. He became the biggest client of his friend Henri Pescarolo. When Pescarolo Sport went broke, he bought the entire team and returned it to Henri. His LMP’s did very well in Le Mans 2010, finishing 2nd and 4th in class and both in top 10 overall.

2016 DTM Championship, AMG Mercedes-Benz C63 DTM
The 2016 Deutsche Tourenwagen Masters was the thirtieth season of premier German touring car championship and also seventeenth season under the moniker of Deutsche Tourenwagen Masters since the series’ resumption in 2000. All three participating brands were present with four teams. Wittmann (BMW) and Mortara (Audi) were the title contenders, Jamie Green was the first Mercedes in third place. Mücke Motorsport didn’t perform very well; Christian Vitoris finished 14th and Lucas Auer 12th in the championship despite 1 win.

2017 GT Masters, Audi R8 LMS GT3
In 2017 DTM were still prototypes in a touring car body work while the GT Masters made use of GT3 cars. Also, the race in GT Masters were longer and had two drivers on each car. Mücke Motorsport was active in both series. In the Masters, Mücke used an AMG Mercedes as well as this Audi R8 LMS for Stippler and Ortmann. Mücke Motorsport finishes third in the team standings.

2018 Le Mans 24h, Porsche 911 RSR-17
In 2018 the factory Porsches both had a historic iconic livery. The #91 had a Rothmans color scheme, without the Rothmans stickers. This one was far more impressive; it had the same livery as the famous 1971 “Pink Pig”. It brought the team more luck than it brought the ’71-version, as this one won the GTE Pro class.

2019 Daytona 24h, Mercedes AMG GT3
American racing driver Ben Keating has been racing for quite some time together with Dutchman Jeroen Bleekemolen. This year they managed to lay their hands on an AMG GT3. The Riley Motorsports team was long in contention for a class win but because of a late spin from one of his teammates, they only finished 6th in GTD (the IMSA counterpart of European GT3).

2019 Le Mans 24h, Ford GT LM
The Chip Ganassi Fords raced in WEC / Le Mans and IMSA since 2016. 2019 Was the last season and besides four factory cars, Ganassi also supported a LM GTE AM car for Keating Motorsports. The purple Ford had a hours long battle with the Project1 Porsche and managed to stay ahead. Unfortunately the fuel capacity of the Ford appeared to be a fraction too large and the team got disqualified.

2019 Le Mans 24h, Ferrari 488 GTE
Iron Dames was founded in 2018 by Deborah Mayer with the goal of supporting and promoting women in motorsport. The fast ladies raced Le Mans for the first time in a Ferrari from Kessel Racing sponsored by watch maker Hublot. The team would drive Ferrari, Porsche, Lamborghini and again Porsche and become a force to reckon with.

2020 Spa-Francorchamps 24h, BMW M6 GT3
Boutsen Ginion entered a real BMW art car in this year’s 24-hour race at Spa-Francorchamps. The livery was designed by American artist Peter Halley. BMW factory driver Jens Klingmann shared the wheel with three amateur drivers. The beautiful car finished a credible 5th in the Pro-Am category.

Ben Keating in the PR1 Mathiasen Oreca took pole-position in LMP2 for the Daytona 24-hour race. The car suffered some problems that threw it back in the ranking and finally the team had to retire in the last hour, but not without setting the fastest lap in class.

2021 DTM Championship, Mercedes-Benz AMG GT3 evo
Red Bull driver Liam Lawson was on title course with his Ferrari, but in the final race of the season Audi driver Kelvin van der Linde crashed into Lawson which destroyed both their title chances. The only driver with a theoretical chance was Maximilian Götz in his AMG but he was way behind. All other AMG drivers in front of Götz slowed down and let him pass, which was just enough to catch the title.

2023 Spa-Francorchamps 24h, Lamborghini Huracán
The Iron Dames, an all-female line-up, achieved historic victories and break throughs in world endurance racing by winning a race for the World Championship in their pink GTE Porsche. Last year they won their category in Spa with a Ferrari 488 and in 2023 the dames competed with a pink Lamborghini Huracán Evo2 GT3. The speed was there, Doriane Pin qualified 12th overall and 4th in the Bronze category, but their race ended in the gravel trap with 10 hours to go.

2023 IMSA Virginia Raceway, Porsche 911 GT3 R “Roxy”
AO Racing, founded by P.J. Hyett and Gunnar Jeannette put some remarkable racing cars on track (Gunnar Jeannette has quite a history on this). In 2023 they raced “Rexy”, a green Tyrannosaurus Rex Porsche 911. In fact there were several: a GT3 R for the GTD category in the IMSA Championship and a RSR-19 GTE from Project 1 that has been used in Le Mans. During the season, “Rexy” got company from its pink sister “Roxy”, a GT3 R as well. Later LMP2 “Spike” joined the family.

2024 Le Mans 24h, Oreca 07 – Gibson
One of the most remarkable cars on track is this pink Oreca, nicknamed “Spike”. Spike is a dragon with little orange wings and comes from the AO Racing stable, just as Rexy and Roxy. It’s not only funny but fast also. Spike finishes 20th overall and 3rd in the LMP2 category. In the IMSA championship the car runs #99.

2024 Le Mans 24h, Lamborghini Huracán
The era of the GTE category has ended and the GT3’s have taken over. The Iron Dames did some races in the Iron Lynx prepared Lamborghini Huracán GT3 last year and race the entire FIA WEC in that car in 2024. They do well and take 5th place in GT3 in this year’s Le Mans. Doriane Pin, fastest of the ladies was supposed to race at Le Mans, but suffered from fractured ribs after a crash in Formula Regional.

2025 Le Mans 24h, Porsche 911 GT3 R
The Iron Dames return to the 24 Hours of Le Mans for the seventh year in a row. After a year with the Lamborghini, they returned to Porsche in 2025. The car was prepared by Manthey Racing that also ran two cars under their own name. Michelle Gatting was injured when a car dropped of the jacks on her foot and was replaced by Belgian Sarah Bovy.
