Olaf Manthey was a successful racer himself before he founded his own team and specialised in Porsche. The green and yellow Porsches have won the Nürburgring 24-hour race many times. Nowadays Porsche AG has a 51% share in Manthey Tuning and Racing and the team prepares and races the Porsche works cars in Le Mans and FIA WEC.
Early green-yellow “Grello” (2007 – 2009)
2007 Nürburgring 24h, Porsche 911 GT3 RSR. German team Manthey Racing has ruled the famous 24 hour race at the old Nürburgring for years. They won it the previous year with a yellow and dark green wide-body Porsche 996 GT3 MR. 2007 was the first win for a yellow and bright green 997 nicknamed “Grello”. The 2007 race wasn’t a 24 hour race at all; the weather was so bad that they stopped the race at night for about 6 hours.

Some other color schemes (2010 – 2013)
2010 Nürburgring 24h, Porsche 911 GT3 R Hybrid. Nowadays we are fully used to hybrid race cars, but in 2010 it was quite new. Panoz built a hybrid racer before in 1998, but Porsche’s 2010 version is much more serious. Instead of batteries an electrical flywheel power generator fitted in the interior next to the driver, delivers energy to the electric motors. Two 60 kW electro engines drive the front wheels and assist the flat-6 that drives the rear axle. The factory car was offered to the experienced Manthey team to test it during the 24 hour race at the Nurburgring. It led the race for 8 hours before it had to retire.

2013 Le Mans 24h, Porsche 911 RSR. After the victory in Le Mans in 1998, Porsche never entered an official works car in any race. Of course Porsche supported teams that drove their 911 GT3 and RS Spyder by supplying material and factory paid drivers. Porsche announced they would return to Le Mans in 2014 with a LMP1 prototype and already wanted to gain some experience. Porsche developed a RSR version of their new 991 (the successor of the 997 …) and hired Manthey Racing to manage the cars on track. It was a success, the 911’s took double victory in GTE-Pro 50 years after the first 911 was produced.

More green & yellow (2016 – 2018 )
2016 Nürburgring 24h, Porsche 911 GT3 R. Manthey Racing has won the famous Nürburgring 24-hours race already five times. This year Manthey was fully supported by the Porsche factory so conditions were good for a sixth win however the Porsche wasn’t the fastest car in GT3. But the Nürburgring is always good for surprises. The #911 Porsche qualified 10th fastest and was allowed to participate in the top 30 shootout. Kevin Estre crashed the car in the warming up lap. The mechanics had a long night repairing the car, but in only the 2nd lap of the race Nick Tandy crashed it again. Race over. The #912 lost some time in the early part of the race but recovered brilliantly and Sunday morning it was back in 5th position. Unfortunately the car broke down with 5 hours remaining.

Spectacular liveries (2018 – 2020)
2018 Nürburgring Endurance Championship VLN, Porsche 911 GT3 R. In the last race of the championship, Manthey entered a car in category SPX instead of SP9 where the GT3 R’s usually run. It was a non-homologated GT3 R from the new 991.2 generation that was wrapped in a kind of camouflage livery. The team finished 13th overall.

2020 Le Mans 24h, Porsche 911 RSR-19. The RSR-19 was the last evolution version of the RSR in GTE specs. The difference with a GT3 R are numerous but the most important one is that the RSR-17 and RSR-19 were mid-engined cars. The entire engine and gearbox were fitted the other way around for better weight distribution and the opportunity to mount a huge diffuser under the rear. This year the competition was too strong and the Porsche Motorsport / Manthey Porsches finished 5th and 6th in GTE Pro.
