1966 USRRC Kent, Lola T70 Mk2 – Chevrolet
The beautiful Lola T70 was a successful sports car in the second part of the 60’s. Penske Racing used it in 1966 for its driver Mark Donohue. Their first win was the US Road Racing Championship race at the race track of Kent.

In December during the Nassau Speed Week, Donohue contested three non-championship races in three days. Friday he retired, Saturday he took 2nd and the final Trophy race at Sunday was another win.

1966 Can-Am Series Bridgehampton, Lola T70 Mk2 – Ford
One of the main competitors for the Penske Team was Dan Gurney in another T70 that was powered by a Ford engine. It was the only victory for a Ford powered car in the history of the Can-Am championship.

Jerry Grant raced the former Dan Gurney Lola T70 Mk1, with 4.7 liter Ford engine. He finished 7th in the Bridgehampton Can-Am race that was won by Gurney in the Mk2 Lola T70.

1967 Can-Am Series Las Vegas Lola T70 Mk3B – Ford
The 1967 Can-Am season was dominated by McLaren that won 5 races out of 6. The last race of the season in Las Vegas was won by John Surtees in a Lola T70. Gurney in a similar car had to retire.

1968 Brands Hatch 6h, Lola T70 Mk3 Coupe – Chevrolet
Swiss driver Joakim “Jo” Bonnier competed in many sportscar races in 1968 and 1969, each time with another number but almost all in a Lola T70 Coupe. That could be his own yellow car or a red one from Scuderia Filipinetti. The model is from his first yellow car with chassis SL73/101 during the 6-hour race of Brands Hatch in 1968 when he shared the car with his compatriot Sten Axelsson. In 1969 he drove an another T70 Coupe in the same livery but that was the newer Mk3B, chassis #SL76/143.

1971 Norisring, Lola T222-Chevrolet
The European version of the Can-Am was the Interserie. Swedish Jo Bonnier has raced Formula One, sportscars for Porsche and Ferrari and then raced mainly Lola’s in his own team. At the Norisring he finished third in this Lola T222 with Chevrolet engine.

1971 Can-Am Mid-Ohio, Lola T260 – Chevrolet
For 1971 Lola developed the T260 and experimented with the position of the rear wing and an additional front wing. Ik was entered by Carl Haas Racing and driven by F1 world champion Jacky Stewart. They won 2 races and took 2 more podiums but in the championship were beaten by the mighty McLarens.

Noritake Takahara took a Lola T280 to Japan and used in the Fuji Grand Champion Series He won the 200 mile race in this livery and later in the season a 250 mile race in the colors of Coca Cola

1972 Fuji 250-miles, Lola T280
After years with the Lola T70, a good car but always in the shadow of the giants of that era Porsche and Ferrari, the new 3-liter rules were welcome to Lola. Eric Broadley build a light sportscar using the reliable Cosworth Formula 1 engine. The Lolas not only raced in Europe. Noritake Takahara took one to Japan and used in the Fuji Grand Champion Series with sponsorship of Coca Cola. He won the 250 mile race with it.

1972 Le Mans 24h, Lola T280
The Bonnier Lola T280 with Ford Cosworth V8 F1 engine had to compete with the factory teams from Matra and Alfa Romeo. The Swiss Gruyere Cheese car was competitive, Gijs van Lennep setting the fastest lap, but later Joakim Bonnier died in a horrific accident after he hit a Ferrari GT on the straight towards Indianapolis and got launched into the trees.

The new Lola T282, with its air box and rear wing was much more sophisticated than the basic T280. The Cosworth powered car could not match the speed of the factory Ferrari’s and Matra’s and had to retire.

1977 Can-Am Series, Lola T333 CS – Chevrolet
The Can-Am series came to a stop after the 1974 season. It restarted in 1977 with more restricted rules, Basically the Can-Am adopted the Formula 5000 single seaters that raced until 1976. The Lola T332 & T333 were just F5000 cars with covered wheels. Patrick Tambay won 6 races in 1977 and took the first title for Carl Haas.

British A.D.A. Engineering built a group C2 car with the same Cosworth V8 engine that many teams used in those days. But it wasn’t the engine that was the weakest point, it was the 10 year old Lola chassis that it was based upon that broke early in the race. The car wasn’t expected to finish well at all. The Group C category was officially launched in 1982. But the year prior to that, the engine limit of 3-liter was abandoned already. Porsche ran 2.6 liter twin turbo’s and this newly developed Lola T600 a 3.0 liter single turbo engine. But the Cooke Racing car had all kind of troubles during qualifying and ended up in 61st spot, not enough to qualify for the race.

The new group C rules allowed great freedom in design as can be seen on this catamaran shaped Lola T600 and T610. Guy Edwards was a good driver but also famous for his ability to do sponsor deals, this time he arranged one with Hawaiian Tropic. The Porsche 956s won and this Cosworth engined Lola retired, the other Lola T610 from Cooke Racing didn’t finish either because it ran out of fuel.
